I went to a poetry reading this evening with my friend Heidi. We listened to Mary Oliver dance her words across the tops of hundreds of people's heads. And I couldn't help but wonder if she and I had access to the same words. They seem so much more artful coming from her mouth, rising off the pages in front of her. She is the rock star of poets, I tell you. She packed the house. And that's how it should be.
