gobble gobble

I was on Craigslist today to get rid of some superfluous stuff and noticed several postings that truly touched my heart. No fewer than three Seattle area families posted ads to invite a family without resources to come over to join their families for dinner. Can you imagine the big-heartedness this requires? Most of us feel pretty generous, but to ask a family into one's home to play with their kids, eat at their table, and join in their reindeer games. That is true compassion and courage. I am moved beyond belief.

This ad touched me in particular:

We would like to invite a small family to join us for Thanksgiving dinner. We aren't having the "traditional" turkey, sweet potatos, and pumpkin pie but it will be a delicous dinner in a loving home. We will be having ham, potatoes, stuffing, glazed carrots, and cherry pie. We don't have a fancy house or a lot of money but we have big hearts and are very greatful for what we have. We have 2 small children and would like to help out another family with a child. We have a playroom full of toys, and enough food for everyone. If you'd like to join us tomorrow please let me know. And to everyone that reads this ad- HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This ad, on the other hand, shocked me. Who would post this on November 19th? I mean, really!



1 *1/2 year old black and white spotted tom turkey. Must go to good home, who will possibly provide a mate for him. he is very Large and very lonely and MUST BE A PET ONLY--not for a Thanksgiving dinner. he can be agressive with other tom males, and I suggest that he should be in fenced yard that is possibly covered for he can fly. Please call if interested.
